Gary "Matt" Matthew Potter

Gary “Matt” Matthew Potter of Spring Arbor, MI went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the age of 56. He is the son of Gary and Barbara (Griffus) Potter, born August 8, 1966. Matt is survived by his two children, Brittany Potter (Jake Walker), Brett Potter (Anna Campbell); his mother, Barbara Potter; brother, Bill Potter; and former spouse and friend, Heather Sanders. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Potter.

Matt was a graduate of Jackson High School and Spring Arbor University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While attending Spring Arbor University he was an All-American Shortstop for the baseball team. Matt went on to teach in the Jackson Public Schools for 19 years, then owned and operated G. Matthew Consulting for 10 years. Matt enjoyed golfing, baseball, and traveling. He loved to spend time with his family. Matt was a coach and mentor to many players and students. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Arbor Church, 120 E. Main St., Spring Arbor, MI on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00am with Pastor Mark VanValin officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Arbor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Matt Potter Memorial Golf Scholarship Fund.  The family will receive friends on Friday, July 14, 2023 at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson from 5:00-8:00pm and at the church on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of service.
