Fred "Homer" Jackson

Fred “Homer” Jackson, age 96 of Spring Arbor, MI, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2020.  He was the son of Vivian D. and Mary L. Jackson.  He was born on September 24, 1923 in Davison, Michigan.  Homer is survived by sons Barry Jackson (Linda), Bryan Jackson (Sherry), and daughter Mary Leana Olson (James); grandchildren April Cotthoff (Foster), Melody Brugger (Brian), Justin Jackson (Jennifer), Lindsay Noll (Brad), Shelby Knight (David), Kevin Jackson (Emily),Whitney Barkus and (Andy), Lucus (Allison); 19 Great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Allene J. Jackson; brothers, Stewart, William, Donald, and Norman. 

He graduated from Davison High School 1941, Spring Arbor Jr. College 1942, Army Air Corps 1943-44, SAC again in 1946 for Associates, Greenville BA 1949-50, Michigan State Masters 1960.  He served our Country in the Air Force from 1943-1983 as a Pilot, the Reserves and later a Liaison Officer for recruitment with 40 years of service. 

Homer taught school, coached at Otisville 1947-49, later Davison 1952-57, Spring Arbor College brought many responsibilities (Coaching, Athletic director, Dean of Students and Director of Admissions) from 1957-1987.  Dad started the Baseball program at Spring Arbor College in l961.  He was a member of Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church.  Dad was not one to stay idle.  He organized mission trips to Haiti, Africa, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, Mexico, and Brazil.  He also volunteered his time at Western Elementary Schools and the food pantry at Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church.  He enjoyed woodworking, camping, sports, and traveling the world.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Homer and Allene Jackson Scholarship fund at Spring Arbor University, 106 E. Main St., Spring Arbor, MI.  49283.  A celebration of Dad’s life will be announced at a later date.
