Frances Lucille (Jett) Champney of Parma, Michigan passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at Arbor Manor Rehabilitation and Care Center at the age of 90. Fran was the daughter of Louis and Blanche Gilson born March 21, 1930 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Fran was preceded in death by her husbands, Walton C. Jett and Robert G. Champney; son, Michael Jett; her parents; brother, Larry Gilson; son-in-law’s, Louis Campos and Leonard Gilman. She is survived by three children, Linda (Bryan) Olson, Sharon Campos, and Carl Jett; step-daughter, Terri Champney; daughter-in-law, Pamela Jett; eight grandchildren, Michelle and Tara Smith, Ashley (Jason) Nidiffer, Chad Jett, Daniel (Noell) Jett, Robert Campos, Kamryn Jett and Aaron Jett; six great-grandchildren, Aisley, Ava, Amelia, Crew, Rylee and Alayna; numerous nieces and nephews; many students and all the lives she has touched.
Fran was a graduate of Western High School and Spring Arbor University with her Bachelor’s degree in Education. Fran’s first teaching position was a one room school house at Smithfield with grades 1-6. After the closing of Smithfield, she finished her 30-year teaching career in the Western School District. Fran enjoyed sewing quilts for newborns, crocheting pot holders and scrubbies. She never met a stranger, always willing to help in many ways.
To continue her advocacy for education, even after death, she willed her body to University of Michigan Medical School. At her request a celebration of her life will be held in the spring of 2021, time to be announced later. Inurnment will be in Chapel Cemetery.
