Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted wife, Florence E. Rainey, 97, currently of Jackson, died having lived a long and graceful life. Born October 28, 1923 in Chassel, Michigan to William and Edith Bunt, she was wed to Dean R. Rainey on May 4, 1947. They most recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. Together they raised five sons, all engineers like their father who excelled in their professions. A devoted mother, Flo was equally devoted to her 7 grandchildren and 6 great-granddaughters. Her loving influence on family also reached her extended family of nieces and nephews and friends. Both she and Dean touched the lives of others evidenced when so many from around the nation reached out to them with cards and well wishes and memories on their 65th wedding anniversary. When Flo was in the room, every person in that room felt included and special and loved. Her favorite saying was, “oh sugar” and her favorite activity as the annual end of summer family picnic at the Hosler cabin on the Muskegon River. Flo always could be counted on to bring her family’s favorite foods of potato salad and both butterscotch and chocolate brownies. In addition to her life in Jackson, Flo and Dean also lived in Midland, MI for 36 years as well as Melbourne Beach, FL.
Along with her husband, she is survived by sons Dean R. Jr (Christine) of Melbourne Beach, Robert (Mary Ann) of Horton, David (Elizabeth) of Fallston, MD, Timothy (Judy) of Leominster, MA, and Douglas (Jennifer of Newaygo.
