Evelyne Jones Obituary

Evelyne was born to Miles & Clara Ansbaugh in Reading, Michigan where she attended elementary and secondary school and graduated from Reading High School in 1934 where she met the love of her life, Elton Marlin Jones.

Shortly after their marriage in 1935, Evelyne and Marlin moved to Jackson, Michigan to begin raising their family. They built their first home together in 1940 and were both actively involved in helping to build the Harrington Elementary School in the early 1950’s.

In 1956 she and Marlin completed the purchase of the Dawn Donut Company where she served as Corporate Secretary for a number of years and met many long-time friends. Her work and her support during these years were significant factors in the early growth and success of the company.

She was an avid gardener and card player; enjoyed crocheting many beautiful creations; loved watching wildlife while staying at their Cabin near Lewiston and played golf until age 93.

She travelled widely and often with her family across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

She was an accomplished musician and home-schooled each of her young children how to play the piano and other instruments.

She was also an active supporter of local arts and music and created the Evelyne Jones Vocal Scholarship Fund at Jackson College. She was also active in the Jackson Women’s Club, The Ella Sharp Museum and the Red Cross.

She was a long-time member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church where she made and enjoyed many life-long friendships.

Evelyne was predeceased by her parents, Miles & Clara Ansbaugh, by husband Marlin, daughter Janet, sons Steven (Cynthia), infant son Edwin, sister Wilma Brown (Kenneth) of Hillsdale, MI and brother Robert Ansbaugh (Roberta) of Cave Creek, AZ.  She leaves behind sons Ronald (Marvel) and Miles (Brenda) and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

The Family wishes to sincerely thank Evelyne’s many caregivers and dear friends who shared their love and support with her over the years as well as the many individuals at Spring Arbor Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice for their care and concern for Evelyne in her final days.

According to her wishes, Evelyne has been cremated. Her service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church - 3637 Spring Arbor Road - Jackson, with Pastor Zach Holdorf officiating.  Visitation will begin at 9:30am until the time of service at 11:00am.  A luncheon in her honor will be held at the Church following the service.

Interment will be later at Maplewood Cemetery in Reading next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the Family suggests donations to the Evelyn A. Jones Vocal Scholarship Fund at Jackson College or the Charity of your choice.
