Evelyn McCann (Naimish), of Jackson, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2024. She was 95 years young. Evelyn, affectionately known as Pye by her parents and siblings, was the daughter of Romanian immigrants, Moses and Stana Naimish. She was born February 19, 1928, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. She is survived by her only daughter, Mishele Wilkins (Mike), grandchildren, Christian Wilkins (Julie) and Cassandra Lagow (Dr. Nicholas), and four great-grandchildren, Ava Wilkins, Lily Wilkins, Evelyn Lagow, and Evan Lagow. She is preceded in death by her loving husband James McCann, parents, and all 9 of her siblings, Mary, John, Don, Bill, George, Nick, Victor, Lynn, and Stan. After graduating primary school in Canada, Evelyn came to Detroit, Michigan at the age of 19 where she took a job with Pontiac Motors. She earned her US citizenship in 1952 and wed the love of her life, Jay, in 1954. She remained faithfully devoted to her husband for her entire life, despite being widowed at the young age of 43. She spent 22 years managing the local Teamster’s Union in Jackson, Michigan before moving briefly to Sonoma, California to manage her brother’s wine store. Her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, would bring her back to Michigan in 1988 where she lived out the rest of her life being their biggest fan and advocate. Evelyn was a volunteer at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital, volunteering weekly for over 20 years. She was a faithful servant of God who valued faith and family above all else, just slightly above hockey and the Detroit Red Wings. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11am with Reverend Jadon D. Hartsuff officiating.
