Ernest (Ernie) Robert Hopson of Horton, formerly of Parma, passed away June 1, 2024, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born on February 19, 1940, in Jackson, Michigan to James and Helen (Krapp) Hopson. Ernie graduated from Jackson High School, after which he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1969. He worked at Consumers Power for thirty-nine and a half years. He collected antique cars over the years and participated in numerous antique car clubs. He traveled many places with his wife, Karen on car tours and he enjoyed putting his cars in the parades at Greenfield Village with the grandkids, dressing them up in the era of the car he was driving. Ernie enjoyed camping in Muskegon with his family and taking his grandkids out on the boat to go tubing on Lake Michigan.
Ernie married Karen Herzberg on April 12, 2003, in Jackson, Michigan. Together, they enjoyed going on vacations and car tours. She was dedicated to caring for him and being by his side while he was in poor health.
He is survived by his wife, Karen (Herzberg) Hopson; children, Kimberly (Mark) Randall of Horton, Jimmie Hopson of Parma, Michelle Felde of Jackson, and John Hopson of Parma; grandkids Breanna Randall of Horton, Rayce (Emily) Randall of Milan, MI., McKenzie Hall of Muskegon, MI., and Sydney Hall of Canton, MI.; two great grandsons, Carson and Taylor of Milan, MI. Ernie was a brother to sister, Janet Jehnzen of North Carolina, and twin to sister Wilma Beaman of Jackson, MI., and a special brother-in-law, Tom Burnham of Brooklyn, MI. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Marthalee Antell of Flushing, MI. and Linda McHenry of Jackson, MI.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, three brother-in-laws, and one son-in-law.
The family would like to thank Careline Hospice and its wonderful nurse, Tammy Lewis, and her team for their excellent care; and to Charlie, for being a wonderful aide and friend to Ernie. They are truly angels on earth.
Ernie was a friend to all and never met a stranger. Per his wishes, cremation has been chosen and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Careline Hospice or a charity of your choice.
