E. Delaine “Dee” Hudson

Of Jackson, passed away on August 3, 2023 at the age of 98.  Delaine was born October 20, 1924 in Huntington, IN to Norman Rose and Anna Helen Rose. Delaine graduated from Jackson High School in 1942.  In June of 1946 she graduated as a RN from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. On October 12, 1946 she married the love of her life, Charles Alvin Hudson and they had three sons.

Delaine lived a life looking after others.  She started her career as a nurse at Macklin, followed by a job working for Dr. John Ludwig.  Next she worked as a nurse in the emergency department at Mercy and Foote Hospital where she retired in 1989. Delaine was not finished with her nursing, going on to volunteer for the Red Cross where she served on over 30 disasters.  Those included Hurricane Katrina, the 9-11 terrorist attack sites at NYC and Washington DC, as well as many other natural disaster locations.  In addition, she volunteered at many local health fairs, blood drives and community events as well as volunteering at the local public library. Delaine was an active member at Ganson Street Baptist Church since she was 11 years old.  She loved singing, bowling, golfing and dancing whenever there was music playing.  You could always find her outside feeding the birds or tending to her garden, and she enjoyed gathering her family and friends for any occasion. Her family will truly miss their “Wonder Woman.”

Delaine is proceeded in death by her husband who passed away in 1994. She leaves behind her three sons, Jim (Deborah), Keith (Diane) & Douglas; her grandchildren, Lara (Derek) Little, Jeremy (Mindy) Hudson, Jeff (Jenny) Hudson, Sarah (Nathan) Evink, Kimmy (Blake) Hansen and Lacey (AJ) Schiel and step-grandchildren, Evelyn (George) Hadden and Sherilyn (Kelly) Orr.  She also leaves behind 18 cherished great grandchildren.  The family wishes to thank Arbor Manor for their loving care to Delaine.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 11:00am at the Ganson Street Baptist Church, 637 W. Ganson Street, Jackson, MI.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm at Watson Funeral Chapel, 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, MI and on Wednesday at the church from 10am until the time of service.
