Duane Kamke Obituary

Duane Thomas Kamke

Of Jackson, Michigan

Our loving Husband, Dad, and Grandpa was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the age of 66. Born January 14, 1958 in Adrian, Michigan, the son of Norma L. Dean and Edward A. T. Kamke. Duane was a 1976 graduate of Columbia Central High School in Brooklyn, Michigan where he was very active in choirs, musicals, and playing his trumpet in the band. He attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He grew up in the garage with his father fixing cars at Kamke’s Kar Kare Klinic. He was an automotive technician for the first half of his working career and always served friends and people from church with auto maintenance. In 1995, he began his career in insurance with Prudential. Later he became an Independent Insurance Agent, offering home and auto and eventually finding his niche of helping with senior health care. He was a member of The Arbor Church (formerly Spring Arbor Free Methodist), active in the orchestra, choir, and on the Ambassador’s Class missions committee. He continued his love of trumpet playing through the years. He played at weddings, parties, churches, and several musical productions in the area. He was a member of the Jackson College Community Concert Band for almost 10 years and dearly loved playing in the band. He always said it was his therapy to go to practice every Tuesday night!  He was affectionately known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and a vast database of jokes for every situation.  He loved making others laugh and brightening people’s days through humor. He was a selfless person, always wanting to serve and help others. He was the rock of his family, modeling a steadfast spirit, and a dedication to God, his wife, and family.  Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Kay E. Kamke, whom he married March 21, 1981; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey “Jeff” and Elizabeth “Beth” Kamke; 2 grandchildren Alexander “Alex” Kamke, and Jenaveve “Jena” Kamke; sister, Marieta Kamke; 2 brothers, David (Joni) Kamke, and Douglas McUmber; sister-in-law, Diane Freiermuth; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Norma Dean and Edward Kamke.  The Celebration of Duane’s Life will be on Saturday, March 9 th at 2pm at The Arbor Church, 120 E. Main St., Spring Arbor, MI 49283.
