Of Jackson, MI went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the age of 79. He was the son of Collis and Helen (Stone) Askins, born July 13, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana. Curt is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karen Askins; his two children, Brent (Mary DeFay) Askins, and Krista (David) Bedells; six grandchildren, Frances Fritchey “Fritch”, James Elliott “Jeb”, Joseph Caleb “Joe” Bedells, Meagan DeFay, Matthew (Tina) DeFay, and Mitchell (Trisha) DeFay; eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Carter, Ava, Claire, J.J., Addilyn, Gwen, and Eli; one sister, Cosette Oran; two nephews, Roger (Criz), and Carter (Jennifer) Oran. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carrol Askins; and brother-in-law, Wayne Oran. Curt was a graduate of Griffith High School. Following high school, he attended Butler University where he received his Pharmacology Degree. Then he attended the School of Medicine at Indiana University where he received his MD. Curt served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as a GMO and Flight Surgeon. Following his honorable service, he worked for 30 years as a Family Practitioner in the Jackson Community before retiring. Curt was the Chief of Staff for Foote Hospital and served as Director of PHP. He was instrumental in starting MedPlus and Convenient Care After Hours Clinics. Curt was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jackson and the Jackson County Medical Society. He was an avid woodworker. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, traveling, and vacationing in Florida. Curt loved his family, grandchildren, and enjoyed many friends. Our sincere appreciation to our dedicated care-givers for over 8 months, Dr. Rosenberg, exceptional care from Henry Ford Hospital doctors and nurses on the 4th and 6th floor, Hospice Home nurses, staff, and Dr. Jon Lake. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a private family gathering will be held. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Cascades Humane Society, or a charity of choice.
