Dorothy A. Borkowski

Age 98, died peacefully at home Saturday, June 26, 2021. She was born April 25, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA. Dorothy came to Jackson at the age of 13 with her family. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1942, and enlisted in the Navy in May 1944. Dorothy served until the end of the war, then continued her education at J.C.C. to become a bookkeeper. She spent the majority of her career at Dawn Foods, where she developed and maintained friendships for over 40 years.

 Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and loving husband, Leo Borkowski. She is survived by her children, Carol Dove, David Borkowski, and Robin (Richard) Zilke; 5 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a woman who always wanted to learn something new. She was kind, generous, inquisitive, and could be somewhat stubborn. Dorothy loved movies, reading, traveling, biographies, cross-country skiing, golf, and being with friends and family. She was a very special Mom who taught us that people were more important than things, and that you get more from giving than in receiving.  Robin would like to give a special thanks to her cousin, Brenda Emelander, for all the help she gave in caring for Dorothy during her final days, to cousin, Rick Chadderton, for his devoted weekly visits with Dorothy, to Tim Crandall who was there whenever Dorothy needed him, and Richard Zilke for all his love and support to Dorothy and Robin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 711 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Jackson, MI on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00am. Interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 9:00am until 10:00am.
