Donald E. Huffman was born in Addison, MI on March 25, 1937 to Harold Huffman and Mildred Huffman (Mosher). They preceded him in passing. Also preceding him are his wife of over 54 years Janet Huffman (Parker), his sister Jerry Beiswanger (James), and Grandson Kyle Ames. Surviving him are his sister June Markiewicz (Richard), brother Jack Huffman (Carol), his children David Ames (Sharanne Bennett), Sandra Thomas (James), Kathy DeFranco (Robert), Kellie Ames (Carl King), Donnie Huffman, Brooke Parker (Mike Dryer), and several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Don was known for being a hard worker. After serving his country in the Army, Don worked for the Aeroquip Corporation and later started his own excavating and landscaping business, which he practiced for over 20 years. After selling his business, he worked for Vickers TJ (Eaton Hydraulics), where he eventually retired. At age 87, Don was still very active and enjoyed yardwork and gardening. In his younger years, he loved golf, bowling, softball, woodworking, hunting, and fishing. In his later years, he loved maintaining his Winter residence in Fort Myers, FL and frequenting the local flea markets to hunt for treasures with close friends Alex Swails and Ray Meckley. In the Summer, he enjoyed maintaining his Jackson, MI home, caring for his Rose of Sharon trees, and gathering the family for lunch at Old Country Buffet after church.
Don was best known for his love for God. He loved church and loved reading his Bible. Most of all, he loved trying his best to follow the example of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in both his words and his actions. Don instilled these beliefs in his children, for which they are eternally grateful. He was a kind, loving man with a huge heart. Although a quiet, soft-spoken man, he was friendly and outgoing, capable of carrying on a conversation with someone from any walk of life. He will be missed by his family, friends, and those who were blessed enough to have him in their life.
On Don’s behalf, the family would like to thank Nurse Robyn and Charlie from Careline, and the wonderful staff at Senior Moments Assisted Living for their loving care and treating him like family.
Special thanks to Kaydee, Denise, Simon, Lena, and Don’s gardening buddy Tracey for going above and beyond to give him a home away from home. May God bless them. According to Don’s requests, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
