Diane M Smith, 71 years of age, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday March 2, 2021 under the loving care of her family and the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice House. Diane was born October 28, 1949 to Joseph and Marian Dunigan survived by her loving husband, Frederick R. Smith, who celebrated 50 years of marriage in November 2020. She is also survived by her two children: Jeff (Shannon) Smith and Tracy (Gary) Jackson. Six grandchildren Katie (Eric) Parr, Andrew Jackson, Nikki Smith, Bailey Jackson, Abby Smith and Nathan Jackson. She is also survived by her ten brothers and sisters: Joe (Candy) Dunigan, David (Sharon) Dunigan, Tim (Cindy) Dunigan, Mary Jo (John) Schultz, Dan Dunigan, Steve Dunigan, Patty (Leo) Sete, Charlie (Laurie) Dunigan, Janie Uhila, Patrick (Lucy) Dunigan. She is also survived by numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. Diane was proceeded in death by her parents Joseph and Marian Dunigan, her sister Karen Dunigan and brother in law Tau Uhila.
Diane graduated from Saint Mary’s Catholic School in 1968. She retired after working in the Jackson community for over 20 years selling promotional advertising. She was a member of numerous organizations including the 100 women who care. She also worked on many organizations to support the Jackson community. Diane enjoyed gardening, golfing, cooking, spending time with and vacationing with her family.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 711 N. Francis St. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11am with Father Charles Canoy officiating. A private inurnment will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home, 2150 Kingsbrook Drive, Jackson, MI 49202.
The family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel on Friday 2-4pm and 6-8pm with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:30pm. Please respect all COVID-19 restrictions; masks are required for all entering the building with a capacity limit of 25 at a time.
