Derald H. Thompson

Derald H. Thompson, age 88, of Jackson, MI, walked peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior on February 17, 2024. Derald was born at home in Parma, Michigan, on August 21, 1935, to the late E. Ray and Orpha (Moffitt) Thompson. 

Derald is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen L. Thompson (Lines); his five children, Brian P. (Renee) Thompson of Lapeer, MI; Karen R. Hamblin of Jackson, MI; Stephen D. (Kathy) Thompson of Troy, IL; Martha S. (Paul) Gray of Littleton, CO; and Carla V. (Mark) Wilson of Ossian, IN.

He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, Erin (John) Kay, Melissa (Ryan) Gray, Becky (Paul) Tiret, Todd Stanton, Stephanie (Jason) Hicks, Cari (Darin) Corrie, Ryan (Amy) Thompson, Heather (Philip) Mickelson, Amber (Mike) Barr, Matthew (Bonnie) Gray, Kayla (Jeremy) Leadem, Danica (George) Pappas, Dylan Thompson, Daniel Thompson, and Audrey Thompson, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandson on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eloise (Max) Roberts, twin brother Gerald (Rosie) Thompson, and sister Gloria (Allen) Card.

Derald worked at Consumers Power Company for 35 years until his retirement. He loved fishing, gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed collecting toy tractors and being outdoors.   He was a long-time, faithful volunteer and member of Spring Life (Howe) Wesleyan Church in Parma. 

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at the Spring Life Wesleyan Church, 9421 Benn Road, Parma, MI 49269 on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11:00am with Pastor Mark Wilson, Derald’s son-in-law officiating. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spring Life Wesleyan Church in Parma, MI.

The family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 5:00-8:00pm and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00am until the time of service.
