Dean E Welter

Dean Edward Welter, Age 88, of Spring Arbor, passed away on March 28, 2026.  He was born on September 17, 1937, in Coldwater, Michigan. 

Dean was a graduate of Hanover High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve.  He later worked for many years at the Southern Michigan Prison as a Corrections Officer before retiring.  In his retirement, he spent time traveling across the United States delivering motor homes, and enjoyed seeing much of the country along the way.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet (Thompson) Welter; his children, Michael (Tanna) Welter, Timothy (Angel) Welter, Lisa Hayworth, and Thomas (Diana) Welter; his step-children, Tina Deck (Mike Rentchler), Jana Powell, and Robert (Julie) Bartell; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Wellington “Shorty” and Violet Welter; his brother, Tom Welter; grandson, Chad Mosher; son-in-law, Kim Powell; and great-grandson, Eric Kim Powell.

Dean loved farming and was passionate about tractors.  He loved being in the field and being connected to nature.  He was also an avid sports fan, enjoying many different sports, including basketball, softball, and in his later years, golfing.  He was a dedicated University of Michigan fan, as well as the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers. 

He will be remembered as a quiet and reserved man who lived life on his own terms, guided by his values and expectations.  His family will remember him in their own ways, and the memories shared throughout the years will continue to live on. 

Dean will be greatly missed by his family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 from 10:00am until the time of service, at The Arbor Church, 120 East Main Street, Spring Arbor, Michigan.  Service will begin at 11:00am with Pastor John Lane, Officiating.  Interment immediately following the service at Rice Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Arbor Church, Benevolent Fund.
