David Roger Kinney

David Roger Kinney of Jerome, MI, our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away Saturday October 7th, 2023 in Adrian, MI. at the age of 90.  David will be remembered as the “Eternal Outdoorsman.”  He was born November 13th, 1932 in Okemos, Michigan.  The son of Morrow M and Elsie (Dietz) Kinney. He graduated from Okemos High School and went on to Michigan State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business.  He founded Kinney Copying Company in the early 1960’s and operated the business for 25 years.  He was later a representative for Combined Insurance Company.  He loved being outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting deer with both bow/gun.  He enjoyed listening to music and going to the Beach Bar in Clark Lake and Bella Notte Restaurant in Jackson.  In the 1980’s he was called “Disco Dave” because he enjoyed the music and dancing with the ladies.

Surviving are his sons, Brett (Joyce) Kinney, and Kevin (Virginia) Kinney.  Grandchildren Terrence Kinney, Raymond Kinney, Amanda Kinney, Jessica Blair, Chad Blair, Ciara (Brennan) Combs, Franzi (Tobi) Dahlenburg, Stephanie Fruyier, and Cody Hagar.  Great Grandchildren Cali, Tanner, Gavin, Macy, Molly, Diesel, Diego, Remington, and Barrett.  His sister Carolyn “Kim” Kinney of British Columbia, Canada, cousin Bill Dietz and longtime friend Jack Eichmeier.  David was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday October 17th, 2023 at Jackson Free Methodist Church, 2829 Park Drive, Jackson, Michigan 49203 with Pastor Tim Flickinger officiating.  There will be a visitation from 12:00-1:00pm prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lenawee County Hospice House or the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of David.
