David Russell Hockman, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away October 21, 2024 at the age of 97. He was born on March 8, 1927 in Hart, Michigan to Herman and Edna Hockman.
David graduated from Cheboygan MI high school and immediately joined the Army Air Corps during WWII as a Photo Technician. He was primarily assigned to Gen. McArthur in the Pacific Campaign. After the war he attended Kansas State University, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering.
During his time at K-State he met Lois Lane and they married shortly after graduation on June 1, 1954. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage until Lois passed away in 2018. His only sister Julia Hinds preceded him in death in 2011. David was a beloved husband and father. He is survived by sons Daniel and Jonathan (Kimberley); grandchildren Glendon, Russell, Julia and Joshua, Jennifer, Jessica, Robert, Brittany, Justin and their children; nieces and nephew Margaret Honeysette, Donna Rutterbush, and Kenneth Hinds and their children.
He spent the majority of his career at Consumers Power Company Headquarters in Jackson. Enjoyed farming after retirement, was active in Civil Defense REACT and operated Emergency Transport Ambulance near Ann Arbor.
During David's life he was involved in a variety of interests. He was a Life Member of the Mason's and American Legion and the Family Motor Coach Association. He was deeply involved in Scouting and salvaged the Ann Arbor Explorers Post Band, later participating in the 5th Michigan Regiment Band, a Michigan Bicentennial Project. Other interests also included astronomy, camping, genealogy, hunting and photography.
David will be interred on October 25 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Cheboygan.
