Darryl Douglas Hackworth of Jackson, MI passed away peacefully at the Henry Ford Hospice Home of Jackson on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the age of 78.
Darryl was the son of Delbert Hackworth and Mary Robinette, born March 24, 1947, in Concord, MI. He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Vowler; one son, Andrew Hackworth; two grandchildren, Sara Vowler (Brandon Dale) and Randy Vowler Jr.; brothers Stanley Hackworth, Thomas Hackworth, and Steven Hackworth; and sister Diane Robinson.
Darryl was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Nancy Hackworth, parents, brothers Harold Hackworth and Duncan (Laura) Hackworth, and sister Yvonne Itschner.
He was a graduate of Parkside High School. Darryl served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He worked at Goodyear in Jackson and then retired from the City of Jackson Water Treatment Plant. Darryl was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Jackson, where he started a non-profit organization called The Nancy Hackworth Literacy Initiative, to honor his late wife. Darryl loved to paint, read, listen to music, and spend time with his family and friends. Darryl will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends and family at Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 801 S. Mechanic St., Jackson, MI on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastor Judy Goodrow officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ - Nancy Hackworth Literacy Initiative.
