Daniel (Daan) Offerman, age 84, entered eternal rest on February 23, 2024. He was born on Sept 19th, 1939 in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. Following a brother, he emigrated to America in his early twenties. He proudly became a US citizen and made San Diego his home.
Daan served in the Dutch army and got his degree in architecture before leaving Holland. He worked as an architect in San Diego County for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and his infant son Scott.
He is survived by his wife Caryl Offerman, son Daniel T. Offerman, daughter Erica Soderlund (David), grandchildren Joanna and Ethan Soderlund, two siblings in the Netherlands and numerous extended family members in the Netherlands and the US.
Daan met his wife Caryl in San Diego where they lived and raised their family. In 2004, upon retirement, they moved to Caryl’s hometown Jackson Michigan. They recently celebrated 54 years of marriage. Daan was a loving husband and father, and adored his role as Opa. (Grandfather) He will be remembered as a man of integrity and faith, who lived life to its fullest, always with a positive mindset, even throughout his journey with Parkinsons disease. Daan is certain to have been greeted with the words of his Lord and Savior, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Many thanks to all those at the YMCA who offered programs, love and support to help hi cope with the disease.
A memorial service for Daan will be held Tuesday, March 5 at 11AM at Jax Naz Church, 3905 Clinton Rd. Jackson, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, the Michigan Parkinson’s association, or the charity of your choice.
