Charles Edward Gilpin of Jackson, MI passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at the age of 94. He was the son of Fred and Mattie Gilpin, born June 7, 1926 in Cheboygan, MI. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, David (Cheryl) Gilpin of Jackson, and daughter Beth Henderson of Westland; four grandchildren, Teresa (Frank) LoPiccolo, Erica (Shannon) Coleman, Winston, and Whitney; two great grandchildren Olivia and Frank, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Margaret (Peg) Gilpin. Charlie was also preceded in death by Jean Pascoe Gilpin. He is survived by Rita Townley Gilpin. Charlie began his working career serving as a Chief Engineer sailing the Great Lakes on various ore freighters. After Peg and Charlie were married, they settled down in Detroit, MI where he began a career with Royal Globe Insurance Company as an Engineering Safety Inspector. That position also took their family to Grand Rapids, MI for ten years. In 1976 Charlie accepted a position with Hall & Kennedy Insurance Company in Jackson, MI where he remained until retirement. Charlie was a member of the Exchange Club and a volunteer at Allegiance Hospital. During retirement Charlie enjoyed playing cards, completing puzzles, working in the garden, traveling and spending time with his family. Charlie always had a smile on his face and something nice to say. He loved to talk with anyone and always had a positive attitude. His amazing life and longevity can be attributed to these great qualities. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service to follow at a later date.
