Bernice Wait Obituary

Long time Jackson resident Bernice W. Wait, age 89, passed away on Thursday,

October 12, 2023. She was the daughter of Paul and Minnie Witte. She was born

on March 23, 1934 in Rhodes, Michigan. She is survived by her loving husband of

70 years, George Frederick (Fred) Wait and was a beloved mother to Greg Wait

(Donna), Brenda Francis (Terry), and Brad Wait (Marni), grandchildren Geoff Wait

(Andrea), Megan Przebienda (Christopher), Lydia Wait (Stefan Hebert), Jenna

Francis (Nick Glair), Joel Francis, Brooke Griffiths (Zach), Kennedy, and Gibson

Wait. Great grandchildren Gregory and Sophie Wait, and baby Przebienda, due in

January. Sister and brother-in-law Marilyn Leavens (Leonard), and brother-in-law

Walter Hartley, sister-in-law, Irma Knochel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law David

Wait (Sue), and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother and

sister-in-law Bob Witte (Barb), sister and brother-in-law Harriet Neumann (Al) and

sister Kaye Hartley, sisters and brothers-in-law Arlene Pomerville (Dick), Della

Guernsey (Max), and Norma Salgat (Bob).

Bernice graduated from Pinconning High school in 1950. After raising her children,

she worked the majority of her career at the family company Fredon Handling Inc.

until retirement in 1999. She loved to travel with her husband, Fred, both in the

United States and abroad. Bernice was compassionate, caring, loving to all that

knew her, and a great woman of faith. She was also a two-time breast cancer

survivor. Bernice enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, singing, and spending

time with family and friends. She was always present to support her

grandchildren in their activities and events. She was a long-time member at both

Immanuel and Redeemer Lutheran Churches and sang in both choirs. She was an

avid Michigan State football and basketball fan. She was also a season ticket

holder for MSU which is the alma mater of her husband, children, and many

grandchildren.

According to her request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be

held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3637 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, Michigan,

Wednesday, October 18, visitation at 10 AM, funeral at 11 AM with Pastor Zach

Holdorf officiating, and luncheon to follow. A private interment will take place at

Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason, Michigan.
