Berdaline (Berdie) Rose Gerig Cleveland, 96, died March 31, 2021, in Spring Arbor. Berdie, the daughter of Christian Joseph and Rose Lynette (Kliewer) Gerig, was born in Pettisville, Ohio on February 26, 1925. Berdie spent her childhood in Woodburn, Berne, and Ft. Wayne, Indiana. A graduate of Berne High School (1943) and Ft. Wayne Bible Institute, Berdie also attended Greenville College in Illinois where she met Donald Jay Cleveland. They were married at First Missionary Church in Ft. Wayne on September 3, 1950. Don died in 2017. Berdie was an accomplished pianist and served as church organist and pianist in Free Methodist churches where she and Don pastored. She was a faithful Christian, wife, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Berdie’s surviving children are daughter Diana Lynn Gallup (David), son Allen Gerig Cleveland, and daughter Vicki Marie Macaluso (Steven); five granddaughters; and three great-grandsons. Berdie, one of four siblings, was preceded in death by her younger brothers Gerald Ivan Gerig and Donald Devon Gerig. She is survived by her sister Geraldine Ruth Gerig.
