Barry "George" D Gallentine

Barry Duane “George” Gallentine, age 83, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on July 14, 2026, surrounded by loving family.

Barry was born on June 16, 1943, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, to James and Edrie Gallentine.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964 as a cook. After returning home, he settled in Jackson, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and creating lasting memories.

In 1964, fate stepped in at the Big Boy on West Avenue when Barry dropped some change and a young woman named Beth bent down to pick it up. That chance encounter became the beginning of a beautiful love story. After spending time getting to know one another, Beth went home and told her father, “I’ve met the man I’m going to marry.” They were married on

September 14, 1968, and shared 48 wonderful years together until Beth’s passing in 2016.

Barry dedicated more than 30 years of service to Mac Steel before retiring. He enjoyed fixing and racing cars with his brothers in his younger years, taking cruises with Beth, traveling back to Pennsylvania to visit family, making annual hunting trips to deer camp with his brothers, and spending time outdoors. He also cherished sitting down with friends, sharing stories, and enjoying a beer while catching up on life. One of his greatest joys was taking vacations with his grandchildren, creating memories they will cherish forever. Above all else, Barry was most proud of the home and life he built with Beth, creating a place where family and friends always felt welcomed, comfortable, and loved.

Barry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Gallentine, and his son, Brian Gallentine.

He is lovingly survived by his son, Bary Gallentine; daughter-in-law, Paula Gallentine; grandchildren, Brendan, Paige, and Haden; his brothers, James, Jack, Bradley, David, Tim, and Keith; his sisters, Janice and Jayne; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Barry’s life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at 5975 McCain Road, Jackson, Michigan 49201.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of Michigan in memory of Beth and in honor of the enduring love they shared.

Barry will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering love for his family, and the simple moments that meant the most to him. Whether he was working on a car, sharing stories from deer camp, traveling with loved ones, sitting outside enjoying a beer with friends, or simply spending time with his grandchildren, Barry found his greatest happiness in the company of those he loved. His kindness, steady presence, and unconditional love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
