Alvin Lee Cummer of Horton, MI passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the age of 90. He was the son of Lynn and Esther (Haviland) Cummer, born June 8, 1931 in Jackson, MI. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Marylyn (Watkins) Cummer; his parents; and sister, Betty Doney. He is survived by one daughter, Sheryl (Bill) Tucker; two sons, Ron (Beth) Cummer, and Rick (Sue) Cummer; grandchildren, Scott Tucker, Chad (Erin) Tucker, Abbey (Lance) Tiffany, Joel Cummer, Brieann (Jake) Hauri, Jenna Cummer, Carley Majewski, Caitlin (Jamie) Senk, and Jami Barr; 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way in July. Alvin was a graduate of Vandercook Lake High School.
He served his country honorably in the United State Air Force during the Korean War. Following his service, he worked for the Albion Newspaper, and then for the Jackson Citizen Patriot as a Computer System Analyst for 35 years. Alvin enjoyed golfing, bowling, and boating. He was a lifetime Detroit Lions Fan and loved to spend time at his home at Farwell Lake. Alvin was a kind and dedicated caregiver to his wife through her 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Alvin will be greatly missed by all who knew him. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11:00am with Michael D. Mason officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Chapter, 25200 Telegraph Rd., Suite #100, Southfield, MI 48033. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am
