Alice VanderVeen Obituary

Alice VanderVeen (nee Groeneveld) entered a well-earned eternal rest on Monday, March 9, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, Richard H. VanderVeen, who was also much-loved.  She was born at home on April 18, 1928 in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. She was a devout and practicing Christian all her life, helping other in many ways, individually and through various charities. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jackson. She often sang “The Messiah” at Christmastime, and in the church choir. She was a volunteer with distinction at the former Foote Hospital, also in Jackson. She enjoyed the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, the Ella Sharp Park and Museum, and WKAR Public Radio.

Alice is survived by two of her children, Carl (Jackie) of Auburn, CA and Caryn (Jack) Lawler of Jackson, OH. She was preceded in death by son, Claude (Shelley) from Milwaukee. These three many times voted her Our Mother of the Miraculous Meddle for not meddling when she may have dearly wanted to! We gave each other much grey hair over the years, and much love. We will long respect and miss her, along with her only granddaughter, Lindy Beadles, and Lindy’s sons Travis and Jake, of Long Beach, CA. Thanks, Mom. You were strong and good.

Alice’s memorial service will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jackson. Visitation at 9:00 AM. Interment will be at Mona View Cemetery in Muskegon Heights later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Trinity Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
