Dedicated Son of Jackson. Addison P. Cook III. Born October 1, 1930, Deceased October 22, 2023.
It’s with great sorrow the family informs the passing of A. P. Cook III at the age of 93. A loving Father, philanthropist, and antique automobile enthusiast; his generosity and love for Jackson will forever be his legacy.
Schooled at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA, Addison would return to attend Jackson Community College. He graduated from Michigan State University where he majored in business administration. After performing military service in the U.S. Army, he joined the family outdoor advertising business, spearheading its growth into a formidable presence statewide. Known to all as “A.P.”, he immersed himself in numerous civic organizations, charities, and community service groups dedicated to the betterment of his beloved Jackson.
In 1990 the Exchange Club of Jackson honored him with The Book of Golden Deeds Award for outstanding, selfless civic service. He also held positions on the board of directors of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Crippled Children’s Association, Jackson United Way, and Junior Achievement. A devoted member of the Jackson Rotary Club, and Cars of Distinction; he enjoyed immersing himself in pursuits that brought him interaction with the community and City he loved. His greatest satisfaction was his successful fund-raising effort to restore the organ at St. Paul’s Church, of which he remained a steadfast member of the congregation. A.P. was a dear friend to many, committed to nurturing strong bonds with great humor and affection throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents Addison and Barbara, sister Cynthia Gilbert, and his wife of thirty-three years, Beatrice Cook. A.P. is survived by his three children; Kristin, Paul, and Addison, grandchildren; Lincoln, and Addison, and nephew John Gilbert.
