Tallis, Richard William, of Horton, MI, age 74, passed away Monday, December 23, 2019. Richard was born August 15, 1945 in Jackson, MI to William and Ellen (Sperow) Tallis. He was a 1963 graduate of Jackson High School, a 1967 graduate of the University of Michigan, and received his Master’s Degree from Oakland University. He is survived by his sister, Mary Swan of Jackson; two brothers, Dr Jay (Chrisann) Tallis of Bloomington, IL and Mark (Debra) Tallis of Holt, MI; three nieces, Rebecca, Katherine and Melissa Tallis; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Dr John and Mrs Ann Tallis, and niece, Stephanie Tallis.
Despite a 50-year battle with Ankylosing Spondylitis, Richard lived a very productive life, retiring from Consumers Energy after 18 years of service in the IT Department, serving as Treasurer of the Hanover-Horton Area Historical Society for over 10 years, completing extensive family genealogy research, helping countless people along the way, and tutoring young minds and sharing his knowledge. He was a loving and supportive brother and uncle, and will continue to be an inspiration to us all.
According to his wishes, Richard has been cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 11:00am with Reverend Sara Hurlbert officiating. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:00am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Hanover-Horton Area Historical Society or the organization of choice.
