Michael Dunigan Obituary

Michael Joseph Dunigan, born in Jackson, February 16, 1942, passed peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, February 23.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet (Crego) Dunigan, his daughters Lori Lynn (Dunigan) Gwinn, Marcy Jo (Dunigan) Campbell, and his loyal dog, Charlie. He will be deeply missed by all, including his two sisters, Rose Mary (Dunigan) Heise and Ann Marie (Dunigan) Williams.  Mike loved and was loved by his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Matthew, Alexander, Sarah, Patrick, Bradley, Owen, Michael, Derek, and Jessica. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Joseph Dunigan and Margaret A. (Ickes) Dunigan, by his brother, Thomas James Dunigan, and by his son, Kevin Michael Dunigan. A legendary salesman, Mike built and successfully ran his company, Dunigan Marketing, for four decades, with the invaluable help of his cousin Diane (Dunigan) Smith.  He was a parishioner of St. Johns Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Mike loved golfing, both in Michigan and in Florida. In 2018, he fulfilled his dream of playing at The Firestone Country Club, PGA course, in Akron, Ohio. A former little league coach, Mike’s greatest joy was his grandchildren and their sporting events.  He could be found at every game, cheering them on and having a laugh with the other parents. He was also a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan.  Mike took great pride in his Irish heritage, and was the embodiment of Irish wit, kindness, and generosity.  The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Mike’s friend and physician, Dr. David Halsey, and also to: Dr. Pielsticker, Dr. Nagesh, and to the team at Michigan Heart. Family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel, in Jackson, 2590 Spring Arbor Road, on Tuesday February 26, from 2-4, and from 6-8, with a Rosary at 7:30pm, and on Wednesday morning, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 711 N. Francis Street, for a Mass of Christian Burial that will begin at 11 am, with Father Jim Shaver officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
