Of Jackson, Michigan went home to be with her Lord and husband Lee on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home at the age of 77. Mary was the daughter of Tilden and Helen (Bruce) Metcalf, born September 29, 1941 in Jackson, MI. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Lee; her parents; her second daddy, Wyman Godfrey; brother, Robert Metcalf; and numerous close family members. Mary is survived by five children, Terry Kope, Debbie Wallace, Tamala Kope, Paul (Jodi) Kope, and Patty (Rick) Cole; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wyman (Chris) Godfrey, and Wayne (Sharon) Godfrey; sister, Pat (Richard) Garrison; sister in-law, Eva Metcalf; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was a graduate of Vandercook Lake High School Class of 1959. Mary was a loving homemaker, and ran a daycare for 21 years out of her home. She was a Charter Member of the Michigan Center Lioness Club where both Lee and she were very active. Mary loved being a caretaker, loved kids, entertaining, traveling, and walking. Most importantly taking care of others, and bringing joy to them. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Legacy Assisted Living for their wonderful care of Mary for the last year and a half, and Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home for their wonderful care. “Ma Kope” had a love for butterflies, so when you see one fly by think of Ma Kope. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at Lansing Avenue Baptist Church, 4000 Lansing Avenue, Jackson, MI 49202 on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home or the American Heart Association.
