Passed away at home August 9, 2018, in the loving care of his wife and his youngest son. Mark was born June 27, 1951, in Jackson, Michigan, to James and Barbara Sponsler. Mark is survived by his loving wife Nannette of 30 years; his children, Lucas (Erika) Sponsler of Parma, Michigan, their children Stella and Hartman; Jacob (Krystin) Sponsler of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, their children Owen and Eliana; Ellen Sponsler of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Kirsten Sponsler of Elmhurst, Illinois; Alexander Sponsler of Parma, Michigan; siblings, Joanne (Del) Thomas, Linda (Pat) Burke, Ellen (Peter) Davis, Christy (Alan) Edmonds, Mary (Steve) Fox, Philip (Mary) Sponsler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark attended Divine Word Seminary in Techny, Illinois, was in the first graduating class of Lumen Christi High School and attended Jackson Community College. He was a proud graduate of Michigan State University and supported the Spartans throughout his life. After college he worked as a carpenter and for VisionQuest, a program for troubled teens and families in Arizona and Colorado, before moving back to Michigan to raise his family. He retired from Southern Michigan Prison. Mark enjoyed living in the country and owned one of the largest herds of Mulefoot pigs in the country. Over the years he served as a boy scout leader, was actively involved in his children’s athletics, was treasurer of the Western Athletic Booster Club, and more recently had volunteered his time with the St Vincent de Paul Society St. John Conference and the Jackson County 4H Foundation. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Father James Shaver officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Marquette, Michigan, will be held August 16, 2018. The family will receive friends at Watson Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 13, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society St John Conference and St John the Evangelist Church.
