John Midgley Obituary

Of Jackson, MI, formerly of Spring Arbor, MI, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the age of 96. John was the son of John and Amelia (Weisman) Midgley born February 14, 1923 in Lansing, MI. John is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Beverly; two children, John W. (Diana) Midgley and Terri (Michael) Szczecina; two grandchildren, Kelly (Michael) Sheppard and John B. (Nicole) Midgley; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was a graduate of Horton High School, then attended Michigan State College. He was called to serve his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the South Pacific area from January 11, 1944 to September 3, 1944. Participated in action against the enemy (Japanese) on Kwajalein Atoll and Saipan, where he was wounded, receiving the Purple Heart for his bravery, discharged in 1945. John started his automotive salesmanship at Ogle Brothers in Spring Arbor, MI finally retiring as Truck Manager at Art Moehn Chevrolet after 30 plus years of service. John was a member of the Masons. He dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, he also enjoyed living with Beverly in the Smoky Mountains for 24 years. John was the Fire Chief, who organized the Spring Arbor Volunteer Fire Department and was Cub Master from 1958 – 1961. A Private celebration of his life will be held at Spring Arbor Cemetery at a later date with honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of John may be made to HonorAir Knoxville, 7536 Taggart Lane, Knoxville TN 37938-8996
