James Albert Miller

James Miller Obituary

Born in Jackson MI July 18, 1931 to William Case and Vera Marguerite (Van Vuren) Miller both of Jackson.

Jim was the youngest of three siblings; Doris (Herb) Fillmore and Phyllis (Jim) Friday also of Jackson.   Jim attended the original Dibble School thru grade school, which is now on exhibit at the Sharp Park Museum and graduated from Jackson High School in 1949. After graduating from JHS, He enlisted in the Naval Reserves that took him to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for training.  After training he joined the US Army which took him by train to Colorado, and Texas.  Jim then went on to serve in the US Air Force in Chateauroux, France from 1950 – 1954. He was very proud to have served his country. Jim was raised at the Cascades Golf Course since his father was the greens keeper. He gained employment at a private golf course on Clark Lake owned by Bob and Arlene Hancock.  Jim’s 2nd career was his pride as a milkman for the Jackson All Star Dairy where he made many, many friends along the way.  Jim enjoyed landscaping, gardening and entertaining.  A few years after moving into their new house, a stray dog came around, ole’ Buddy Buddy turned out to be the truest of true friends for 15 years. After retirement Jim kept himself busy making bird houses and bird feeders. He was very religious going to “The Spoon”.  Every morning a group of friends would gather at the same table for a cup of coffee.  Special friend, Maryellen made our father very happy.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife Elaine, his parents, two sisters, and step-son Edward Flores. Jim leaves behind his loving daughters, Marcia, Cheryl and husband Bill, and Kelly; step-daughter Jackie and husband Mark, and step-sons Terry and Scot Flores.  Granddaughters, Dustina, Morgan, Sarah (of Montana) and Shanda (of Arizona), and 13 great grandchildren that loved him dearly. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Diabetes Association, 20700 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076 in Jim’s memory. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM, Michael D. Mason officiating, interment Roseland Memorial Gardens following.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
