BURGETT, HAROLD W. (Hal) passed away on May 19, 2019 at the age of 90.  He was born and raised in Jackson, MI and currently resided in Summit Township and Port Richey, FL.  He was born on Oct.6, 1928 to Grosvenor and Florence Burgett.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Colleen L.  to whom he was married for 25 years.  They raised four lovely children, who survive: Sharon (John) Lemmon, Steven (Bev), Thomas (Phyllis), Timothy and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his loving wife Edwina R. of 42 years and her two children Jeffrey Reames and Julie Markham.  He was preceded in death by his sister LaVon Bostwick.  Harold graduated with honors from Jackson High School in 1946.  He enrolled at Jackson Community College graduating in 1949 with an Associate’s Degree.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in July of that year and received his pilot’s wings and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in August 1950.  He was then ordered to the famous 509th Bomb Wing in Roswell, NM.  He was sent from there to Okinawa where he flew 28 combat missions over N. Korea over a period of 8 ½ months with his B-29 Crew.  Upon returning home he was sent to Lake Charles Air Force Base in Lake Charles. LA where he finished his four year tour of duty as a First Lieutenant.  He was accepted into the Pharmacy College at the University of Michigan in 1953 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1956.  He was a partner in starting the first shopping center Pharmacy, in Jackson, Eastgate Apothecary in 1958.  Five years later he opened and operated his own pharmacy (Northwest Pharmacy) on Lansing Ave. north of Jackson.  During that time he also owned Jackson Swimming Pool and Supply and installed in-ground swimming pools in an extensive surrounding area.  After closing his pharmacy in 1974 he was employed by several local pharmacies, retiring from Aumack’s Chemist Shop in 1992.  Over the next 10 years he worked for Weatherwax pharmacies.  He was a long time member of the Jackson County Pharmacy Association serving as its president 1964/65.  He was a member of the North Jackson Lions Club for many years, serving as its president 1973/74.  After moving to Spring Arbor in 2001, he transferred to the Parma-Spring Arbor Lions Club where he served his community until his death.  He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at Haven Methodist Church at the age of 16.  He became a founding member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and Church treasurer.  He later served as a board member for the Gethsemane United Brethren in Christ Church (Pathway) for many years.  He loved his family and enjoyed camping, tennis and golf.  His family will receive friends at Watson Funeral Home, 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, on Friday May 24th from 5-8pm. The celebration of Hal’s life will take place at Bethel Baptist Church, 1691 Springport Road, Jackson, Saturday, May 25th  at 11am, with visitation one hour before the service,  followed by internment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Jackson.  For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Mission Aviation Fellowship or to Parma-Spring Arbor Lions Club.
