Gwendolyn Walz Obituary

Of Jackson passed away August 16, 2018 at age 69. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Douglas C. Walz, her 5 children; Cammie Walz, Corey Walz, Joshua (Sara) Walz, Mandy (Bryce) Gernand, Timothy (Beth Ann) Walz, and her 12 grandchildren which were her pride and joy: Maxwell Walz, Nathan & Macy Ross and Marina & Charlotte Walz, Isaac, Eli, Micah, Leah, & Titus Gernand, and Christian & William Walz.  She is survived by her sister, Sandy (Dennis) Straub, and her mother, Virgilene Hamilton.  She is preceded in death by her father Paul Wendall White.

Her life’s work revolved around taking care of the ones she loved most. She was a stay at home mother to her children and was constantly involved in their classrooms and athletics. She was the greatest caregiver to her family when loved ones battled cancer and her husband endured his heart and liver transplant. She taught Sunday school and was involved with Community Bible Study for years. Her greatest gifts were hospitality, being a caregiver to those suffering, and prayer. She was dedicated to a life of prayer and often spent hours praying for her family and friends she held so close to her heart. The Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester, MN and Camp Barakel in Fairview, MI will always hold a special place in her heart along with the relationships built there.

A celebration of her life will be held at Jackson First Church of the Nazarene (Jax Naz) on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Bryce Gernand officiating followed by a brief internment ceremony at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Watson Funeral Chapel on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again at Jax Naz on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 Second Street SW, Rochester, MN 55902
