Florence Anna Sayre, 96 years of age of Jackson, went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2019 at Arbor North Assisted Living Center. She was born on October 6, 1922 to Roy Herbert and Lydia Emma (Schnasse) Reynolds.
She graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington in 1940 and graduated from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington in 1944. Florence married Eldon Burton Sayre on July 18, 1945 in Tacoma, Washington. Florence served the Lord for 32 years as a missionary in Zimbabwe under the Free Methodist Church of North America from 1945 to 1977. During that time she was Women’s and Children’s Ministries Coordinator and taught Laubach reading and writing and also taught at the Lundi Elementary and High School. She was the Mission Treasurer and Bookkeeper. Florence authored “Inyanbani Tidings” and “Early Missionary Tidings of Southern Africa.” Upon returning to the United States she taught in East Liverpool, Ohio and California Christian Schools from 1977 to 1983. Florence retired to Greenville, Illinois and then to Spring Arbor, Michigan.
Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eldon in 2013, her parents, and her sister Mary. Florence leaves behind her five daughters: Margaret (David) Hill of Greenville, Illinois; Linda (David) Marcy of Gilbert, Arizona; Nancy Barnes of Pompano Beach, Florida; Joan (John) Monaghan of Tecumseh, Michigan; and Patricia Wagner of Rogers, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church Chapel on August 24, 2019 at 3:30pm with visitation beginning at 2:30pm.
