Of Jackson, passed away peacefully at Trellis Gardens Assisted Living at the age of 87 on March 5th, 2019 under the loving care of the staff at Trellis Gardens, Diana, and Great Lakes Hospice. Ellie was born June 22nd, 1931 in Battle Creek Michigan to her parents, Dr. George and Lila (Reynolds) Cannon. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Jamieson and Patricia Hill Haughton; 2 grandchildren RJ and Samantha and 3 great-grandchildren; Diana Sniffen her longtime caregiver; her brother, Dr. Richard Cannon (Ann) and several nephews. Ellie was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2006. Ellie was a graduate of University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in communication. Throughout her lifetime she was active in PEO and Michigan Alumni Association. Ellie and her husband Jack were avid travelers. Both having a wanderlust spirit they often ventured out not knowing exactly where they were going, following the road to wherever it took them. They traveled to all 50 states in the US and over 50 countries in their 53-year marriage. Ellie and Jack were fascinated with people and other cultures. It was often said “they never meet a stranger.” To them travel was not only about sightseeing, they immersed themselves in the history and culture everywhere they visited. They always embraced the adventure and were constantly planning their next quest. While her journey here has ended, she starts a new journey now where once again she will be traveling with Jack to wherever the road leads them. In keeping with Ellie’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Trellis Gardens Assisted Living and Diana Sniffen for their loving care of Ellie. These who wish to honor Ellie’s life may make a donation to the following, Great Lakes Burn Camp PO Box 6189 Jackson, MI 49202, Jackson County Animal Shelter 3370 Spring Arbor Rd Jackson, MI 49203, or the charity of one’s choice.
