Darwin Watts, Sr. Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Darwin Watts Sr. announces his passing on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at the age of 84. Born in Jackson and raised on a farm in Parma, Darwin learned to work hard at a young age and his work ethic was arguably his greatest attribute and proudest trait. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Watts Sr. and Nellie (Newsom) Watts; daughter, Susan Guynn Watts; brothers, Clyde, William Jr., Richard, and Ronnie; and sister, Betty Lou. Surviving are his wife, Janice; daughter, Christine (Ken) Zebarah; sons, Dale (Char) Watts, Darwin (Cindy) Watts, Jr., Jeffrey (Randi) Watts, and Scott (Lynn) Watts; sister, Patricia (Ken) Dowling; and over 30 grandchildren and great- grandchildren; and his dog, Maggie.

Dar served in the United States Army during the Korean War from May of 1953 through May of 1956. Darwin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, MI for over 50 years. He based his life heavily on family and hard work. Darwin was married to his amazing wife, Janice for over 60 years. His deep love, kindness, devotion, and hard work was passed on throughout his family. This was especially apparent in the business that Darwin started called Tri County Water Conditioning. He built a successful small business that supported his family for many years and the business now continues to grow with third-generation ownership. After retiring, flipped over 20 houses, volunteered a large amount of time to Hospice of Jackson, the VA, and more. Dar also enjoyed golfing, frequent family gatherings, and of course caring for his perfectly manicured lawn. Darwin was very well known in the community- particularly the Vandercook Lake Community. Most of the family grew up in Vandercook Lake and Dar and Jan lived on the lake for over 30 years. We are all blessed and honored to have had him in our lives. Thank you to Careline Health Group and Dar’s special caregiver, Crissie Butzin, RN and all the angels that comforted him.

A celebration of his life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jackson on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 10:00am with Pastor Dallas Flippin officiating. According to his wishes cremation will follow. Condolences and memorials can be sent to First Baptist Church, 201 S. Jackson St., Jackson, MI 49201 or Careline Health Group, 113 W. Michigan Ave., Suite 102, Jackson, MI 49201.

The family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm and at the church on Thursday from 9:00am until the time of service.
