Of Jackson, Michigan, passed away suddenly at his home Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the age of 64. He was born September 13, 1954 in Jackson, MI to Carol Rosary (Brown) Lusty and Richard James Lusty and step-mother Priscilla. Brian was the second oldest of seven children and a graduate of Lumen Christi High School. Brian is survived by his wife, Vonnie (Raeff) Lusty, who he married on June 10, 1978; daughter, Meghann (Dave) Liebetreu, son, Collin Lusty; two grandchildren, Carter and Ava Liebetreu; six siblings, Phil (Mary Ann) Lusty, Jill (Dan) Gregurich, Josie (Jim) Gauthier, Steve (Margaret) Lusty, Karen Lusty, and Katie (Joel) Schlicker. He was preceded in death by his parents. In 1974, Brian became a Railroad Engineer for Con-Rail (then CSX). Then, in 1981 he was promoted and made progressive moves to Toledo, Albany, and Maryland. In 2007, Brian worked for the Department of Homeland Security where he was the architect of Freight Rail Risk Reduction Legislation. Brian retired in 2016. He loved seeing his grandkids, golfing, biking, Michigan sports, history, reading, doing crossword puzzles, music, and sharing his great sense of humor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 10:30am at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 1111 Carlton Blvd., Jackson, MI; Father Timothy MacDonald officiating. Cremation will follow the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or charity of choice.
The family will receive friends at Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 6:00pm-8:00pm, with a rosary at 7:30 pm, and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30am until the time of service at 10:30am.
