Anthony Janiak Obituary

Of Jackson passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at RidgeCrest Health Campus at the age of 96. Tony was the son of Albert and Verna Janiak born November 8, 1922 in Jackson, MI. He was preceded in death by Lucille, his wife of 68 years; his parents; sister, Emily Rozen; brother, Vernon Janiak. He is survived by his three children, Tim (Gail) Janiak of Billings, Montana, Jacqueline (Ron) Gonerka of Jackson, and Randall (Penny) Janiak of Jerome; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and sister, Ann Guziel. Tony was called to serve his country during World War II in the United States Navy, stationed on the USS Independence serving in the Philippine Liberation and Asiatic Pacific where he received the Purple Heart as the result of a torpedo attack in November 1943. He began his working career at Kelsey-Hayes Wheel Company, Hancock Manufacturing, then Goodyear Tire & Rubber, working in all phases of quality control until his retirement. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family, especially summer vacations to Huron and Houghton Lakes. He loved to fish and was quite comfortable with a cane pole in hand. A life-long golfer, working as a caddie in his youth and spending much of retirement golfing with Lucille, family and friends. July 1980, he finally got his first and only hole-in-one. Tony had a strong faith in God, and we will miss this soft spoken, loving, father, grandfather and friend. According to Tony’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 1111 Carlton Boulevard, Jackson, MI 49203 on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 10:30 am, Father Tim MacDonald officiating, inurnment following in St. John Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Legacy Lane at RidgeCrest for their wonderful care of Dad. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice Foundation, 900 Cooper Street, Jackson, MI 49202.   Visitation at the church from 10:00 am until the time of Mass.
