Cheryl Williams Obituary

Cheryl left us to go meet her heavenly father on April 4, 2024. She had defeated breast cancer years ago, but the chemotherapy and radiation treatments left her with a heart problem, which finally caused her death of congestive heart failure. Cheryl was born on June 9, 1956 and at six weeks of age came to live with her parents, Thomas and Harriet Williams. She was predeceased by her grandparents, father, Thomas Williams, and her uncle and aunt, Ted and Janice Williams. Those mourning her loss are her mother, Harriet Williams, three siblings; Brian T. (Valerie) Williams of Mishawaka, IN, Pamela S. Freytag of Marshall, MI, and Matthew J. Williams of Kingsville, TX. She also had 9 nieces and nephews and 12 grand nieces and nephews. Cheryl never married. She spent many hours caring for and loving her dogs. She especially loved her greyhounds, all of which were rescued from dog racing facilities. In her younger years, Cheryl enjoyed camping, swimming, sailing with her dad on his rebel sailboat at Clark Lake, and music. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang in several choirs. She was in the band and orchestra in high school and played the piano, organ, violin, viola, and French horn. In college she traveled with the Maranatha Singers. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a double major and continued her education in Chicago where she earned a para legal degree. She worked as a para legal for 7 years and later did political phone surveys. She especially liked history and enjoyed politics, having had an internship with a Michigan legislator after college. Cheryl was creative and clever, and in spite of her physical problems lived an interesting life. She had asthma, heart trouble, breathing difficulties and arthritis. These caused her to rely on Social Security Disability payments for many years. Still, she enjoyed life the best she could. Cheryl lived in Eastpoint (Atlanta), Georgia for 30 years of her adult life, before returning to Jackson. Her last year was spent at Allegra Nursing and Rehab home, and after numerous hospital stays, she was referred to Hospice. They provided her their services and kept her comfortable during her final days. The family wishes to thank the staff at Allegra and the staff from Hospice for their care. Cheryl has been cremated and will be interred in the memorial garden at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, as per her wishes. It will be a private family service. Memorials may be made to charity of your choice.
